BE GREAT communicates the ideas that there is the potential for greatness within every child and that all of us play a vital role in helping youth realize their dreams.
General Information
Welcome,
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff of the Marguerite Neel Williams Boys & Girls Clubs of Thomas County, thank you for allowing your child(ren) to become a member of this organization. You have our assurance that we will try our very best to make this a wonderful, life enhancing experience for your child(ren). We believe their involvement in the Club will help them acquire skills and attitudes that will help them become successful in life. We hope that you as a parent/guardian will benefit as well as a result of your child(ren)’s involvement in the Boys & Girls Club.
The information that we will share with you in this Orientation Guide is designed to make you aware of how we operate and our expectations. In addition, it is our desire to hopefully answer any questions that you might have regarding your child(ren)’s participation in the Boys & Girls Club as a member. It has been designed as a guideline for general information only and may change periodically. This document is not intended to be, and is not an exclusive and exhaustive statement of the Boys & Girls Club organization, it’s practices, procedures, policies and/or membership expectations.
We have attempted to prepare this document so that the information will reflect both the summer and after-school programs. All information that pertains exclusively to the summer program will be so noted.
You are always welcome.
Purpose
The Boys & Girls Club is a youth development organization dedicated to promoting the health, social, education, vocational and character development of boys and girls. It aims to help young people improve their lives by building self-esteem and developing values and skills during critical periods of growth.
Youth Development Strategy – Successful Character Development
Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling:
A Sense Of Competence – The feeling that there is something boys and girls can do and do well.
A Sense Of Usefulness – The opportunity to do something of value for other people.
A Sense Of Belonging – A setting where an individual knows he or she has a place and where he or she “fits” and is accepted.
A Sense Of Power Or Influence – A chance to be heard and to influence decisions.
When this strategy is fully implemented, the self-esteem of girls and boys is enhanced and an environment is created which helps them achieve their full potential.
Membership Age
- All youth between the ages of 6 – 18 are eligible for membership at the Boys & Girls Club. Race, creed, religion and socio-economic standing have no bearing on membership eligibility.
- A copy of the Birth Certificate must be provided for all six-year-olds that register for a Club membership.
- All seventeen and eighteen year olds that register for a Club membership must produce documentation that will verify their age.
Membership Fee
Making sure that all youth can afford to belong and participate is a primary concern for the Boys & Girls Club organization. It is and always will be our intent to keep our membership fees as low as possible.
Yearly membership fee: $5.00 per child
Boys & Girls Club memberships expire on December 31st each year.
